The Rivers State Government has refuted reports alleging a brewing conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly regarding the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
In an official statement released on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the administration described the reports published in several national dailies and online platforms as unfounded, reassuring the public that both arms of government maintain a harmonious working relationship.
Addressing the issue, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, clarified that the 2026 budget proposal is currently following standard legislative procedures following its formal presentation to the House.
“His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is not at loggerheads with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, but rather working closely with them to serve the good people of Rivers State,” Nzeshi stated.
He expressed optimism that the lawmakers would pass the budget once the vetting process is concluded, emphasizing that the state administration remains focused on delivering good governance rather than political disputes.
Recalling previous administrative hurdles, Nzeshi cautioned against the spread of divisive rumors that could undermine stability in the state.
“The Rivers State Government has gone through difficult times in the past and is not prepared to be dragged into another round of controversies. We therefore advise all those bent on promoting negative narratives to desist from such actions forthwith as we need peace and harmony to ensure steady development of Rivers State,” he added.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and collaboration across all branches of power to drive sustainable economic and social growth across Rivers State.
