By Ephraim Emmanuel

Operatives of the Rumuolumeni local vigilante group, Onelga Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), have arrested a suspected cultist identified simply as Mr. Smith following a violent shooting at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni.

The arrest was led by the Rumuolumeni OSPAC Commander, Kenneth Olumeni.

According to preliminary reports, Smith and members of his gang allegedly stormed the university campus on Wednesday during the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Week celebrations and opened fire sporadically. The gunfire created widespread panic among students and faculty members.

During the chaos, a stray bullet reportedly hit a student, who was immediately rushed to the university health centre for emergency treatment.

Speaking on the incident, Commander Olumeni confirmed that while other members of the gang fled the scene and remain at large, vigilante operatives managed to track down and apprehend Smith. A Toyota Corolla with registration number BAYELSA NEM-425AE, allegedly used by the suspects, was also impounded.

Security agencies are expected to deepen investigations to uncover the identities and whereabouts of the fleeing accomplices. Meanwhile, community members and residents have been urged to stay vigilant and share credible information with law enforcement agencies to aid ongoing peace-keeping efforts.
