The Rivers State Government has formally refuted claims alleging that it owes the Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion outstanding funds stemming from donations or official pledges.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Head of the Information and Public Relations Unit in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Juliana Masi, clarified that all financial commitments made to the organization have been fully honored.
Dr. Masi emphasized that the administration under Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara remains steadfastly committed to the welfare of ex-servicemen, veterans, widows, and the families of fallen heroes. Specifically, the government confirmed that Governor Fubara has completely redeemed the pledge he made during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
Refuting the allegations, the state government urged members of the public to disregard reports suggesting any indebtedness to the Legion.
Reaffirming its ongoing support, the government pledged to continue sponsoring initiatives designed to elevate the dignity and well-being of veterans and their dependents, while expressing profound gratitude to the fallen heroes and ex-servicemen for their selfless sacrifices to the nation.
