The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State has extended the ongoing third phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks to give more citizens the opportunity to participate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The extension, which moves the closing deadline from July 10, 2026, to Sunday, July 26, 2026, was announced in a statement by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State, Johnson Alalibo-Sinikiem.
Under the new schedule, registration centers will operate daily—including Saturdays and Sundays—from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at all INEC state and local government area offices across Rivers State.
According to Alalibo-Sinikiem, the extension specifically targets eligible Nigerians who have recently turned 18, ensuring they are not disenfranchised.
In a major policy shift aimed at easing the process, the commission also announced that starting Wednesday, July 8, 2026, fresh registrants can begin and complete their entire registration process online without needing to visit an physical INEC office.
Individuals looking to transfer their voting locations, replace lost cards, or update their existing voter profile details are also advised to utilize the online portal at cvr.inecnigeria.org during this two-week window.
Alalibo-Sinikiem reiterated INEC’s commitment to ensuring an inclusive democratic process as the electoral umpire intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
