Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has defended marriage, saying love and marriage are not scams, and urged Nigerian women to stop taking relationship advice from people whose marriages have failed.
Speaking in an interview with BBC News Pidgin, the actor said the real issue is people who enter relationships with financial motives.
‘Relationship No Be Scam’
Emeka argued that relationships only become fraudulent when one partner is being exploited. “Love and marriage no be scam, but e get people wey dey hungry wey dey use relationships as meal tickets. Dat na where e become scam,” he said.
He described genuine love as “beautiful” and said every relationship should be built on sincerity, not hidden financial expectations. “Relationship suppose to dey sacred. Love na di foundation and pillar of every good relationship,” he added.
‘Don’t Listen to Women Whose Marriages Have Crashed’
The actor criticized the trend of some women entering relationships mainly to benefit from wealthy men. He also warned ladies against following online narratives from failed marriages. “Make Nigeria girls cool down, no dey listen to those women wey their marriage don scatter o, na dem full online. No take that one go meet your husband for house,” Emeka warned.
He stressed that every marriage is different and couples should focus on resolving their own issues with understanding, patience, and mutual support, instead of comparing themselves to others on social media. “Stop pretending to be in love while pursuing selfish interests,” he said.
