Tension is high along the Okrika-Eleme axis after heavy gunshots were reported last night. According to an eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent, the gunshots occurred at new development sites in Aleto and Alesa communities, allegedly linked to real estate developers and land grabbers.
The Police are yet to confirm if there are casualties. Meanwhile, Eleme Local Government Chairman, Obarilomate Ollor, has issued an executive order suspending all real estate activities in the LGA with immediate effect.
Chairman Ollor says the affected areas were gazetted after a 1957 Supreme Court judgment and have not been allocated to any private individual or company. He also threatened legal action against non-compliant developers.
The Council says it has petitioned relevant authorities through Eleme lawmaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly Aforji Igwe.
Reports have it that the aggrieved youths of Eleme Community have blocked a section of the East-West Road leading to the Eleme Port Harcourt Refinery with fuel tankers.
