Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited says oil production rose in the second quarter of the year following increased surveillance of pipelines in the Niger Delta.
The General Manager of PINL Community Relations, Dr. Akpos Mezeh, said in his address that daily crude oil production increased from 1.66 million barrels per day in April to 1.70 million barrels per day in May, a rise of 2.2 percent. He added that production exceeded the OPEC quota for the first time this year.
“According to the latest data released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Nigeria’s total oil production increased by 2.2 percent between April and May 2026, rising from 1.66 million barrels per day to approximately 1.70 million barrels per day. More significantly, crude oil production averaged 1.53 million barrels per day, surpassing Nigeria’s OPEC production quota of 1.50 million barrels per day for the first time in 2026,” he said.
“This achievement reinforces Nigeria’s position as Africa’s leading oil producer and represents the highest combined production level recorded since July 2025,” he added.
Meanwhile, the President General of the Orashi National Congress, Emeni Ibe, commended PINL for its monthly engagements and urged the company to include women and other groups in its empowerment programmes.
Several stakeholders, including traditional rulers, youth, and women’s groups, attended the event held in Port Harcourt.
