Acting IAUE VC Calls For More Private Sector Investment On Tertiary Education

The Acting Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor OKECHUKWU ONUCHUKWU, has called for more private sector investors in tertiary education in Nigeria.

Professor ONUCHUKWU made the call during the official inauguration and handover of the Professor Okey ONUCHUKWU Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies to the management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education ,Rumuolumeni, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He said the aim of the institute was deliberate, to train graduates  who would alternatively proffer solutions to  communities in settling disputes.

He said: “The environment we find ourselves in the Niger Delta, we’re prone to crisis, and this crisis is related to community clashes or oil related. Having studied in the Niger Delta region and as I came in as the acting Vice chancellor, I adjusted the university academic brief to include a course in peace and conflict studies.”

The Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor OKECHUKWU ONUCHUKWU said from conception to funding, no money was borrowed to finance the project. He, however, appealed to the management to utilise the facility to contribute in the development of alternative dispute.

Some conflict resolution and peace advocates who spoke to our correspondent during the event, pledged to support the activities of the institute in promoting peace in the state, country, and beyond. 

Professor Kingdom Nwaenyi, the Director of Professor Okey ONUCHUKWU Institute of Peace and Conflict studies at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education was the Chief Host of the event among other guests that attended.
