Members of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, have allegedly fallen victim to a cash heist inside their hotel rooms at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco.
According to emerging reports, several players returned to their accommodations to discover significant amounts of foreign currency missing from their personal belongings.
Forward Esther Okoronkwo was reportedly the hardest hit, alleging that $700 was stolen from her room. Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade reportedly lost $200, while veteran defender Osinachi Ohale and midfielder Halimatu Ayinde both reported $100 missing. Forward Joy Omewa also allegedly had $120 taken.
The players immediately escalated the matter to hotel management. However, Okoronkwo alleged that rather than offering swift assistance, certain hotel staff members responded with disrespect to their complaints.
Suspicion among team members has largely centered on the hotel’s housekeeping personnel, who had routine access to the private rooms while the squad was away on official team duties. However, no official evidence or CCTV footage linking specific individuals to the alleged theft has been made public.
At the time of reporting, management at the Marriott Hotel Casablanca had not issued a formal statement regarding the incident, and it remains unconfirmed whether local Moroccan police authorities have opened an official criminal investigation.
The Super Falcons, who are currently in Morocco representing Nigeria on international assignment, now face an unwelcome off-field distraction as officials attempt to resolve the security breach.
