In a bid to maximize field-level execution over administrative routine, the Rivers State Government has directed its primary healthcare leadership to streamline performance reviews and focus on actionable health outcomes.
The directive was issued by Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Nma Odu during the 2026 Second Quarter Review Meeting of the State Task Force on Primary Healthcare at Government House, Port Harcourt.
While acknowledging three years of “progressive and encouraging” growth across all 23 local government areas, Prof. Odu emphasized that future review sessions must become shorter and strictly focused on three core areas: major achievements, operational bottlenecks, and practical solutions. The shift aims to free up critical time for implementation and direct service delivery in rural communities.
“Every member of the Task Force is striving to improve on previous performances, and that is driving better outcomes in our Primary Healthcare System,” Prof. Odu noted, attributing current gains to healthy competition and collaboration.
The Deputy Governor also credited the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr. Chituru Adele, for strengthening field coordination, citing positive feedback and field reports that show improved operational efficiency across state clinics.
The meeting concluded with the task force aligning its strategic targets for the remainder of the 2026 fiscal year.
