The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a violent attack in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), which claimed the lives of a local vigilante commander and three women.
The deceased commander, Ozoemela Stephen Wokocha, led the Omoku branch of the ONELGA Security Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC)—a local security outfit key to supporting conventional security agencies in policing the area.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the police expressed deep sadness over the killings, noting that the incident has shattered the relative peace previously enjoyed by the community.
While the official police statement refrained from confirming specific casualty figures, it strongly condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Command appealed to members of the public to provide credible and actionable information to assist investigators in tracking down the assailants.
The midnight assault has sparked widespread panic across Omoku, with residents expressing fear over potential spillover violence.
The tragic incident comes on the heels of repeated warnings by the Commandant-General of OSPAC, Emeka Onyeocha, who recently raised grave concerns regarding the welfare, severe underfunding, and logistical challenges facing operatives of the local outfit across the state.
