In a major political shift in Rivers State, the pioneer Director General of the Rivers First Movement (RFM), Maobuye Nangi Obu, has officially resigned from his position and announced his complete withdrawal from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In his resignation letter, the prominent youth leader and pro-democracy advocate disclosed that his departure followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with key stakeholders. Obu cited the group’s departure from its original vision and core objectives as the central reason for his exit.
Obu highlighted that mounting internal challenges and conflicting interests within the socio-political organization severely hindered its ability to expand its grassroots structures and translate its founding mandate into sustained political and civic engagement.
Reflecting on his tenure, Obu noted that he had dedicated his efforts toward building a structured platform equipped with strategic mobilization roadmaps designed to unite citizens across political, ethno-religious, professional, and generational lines in Rivers State.
“My decision is not impulsive, but the result of careful consideration,” Obu stated, affirming that the time had come to advance his vision for a progressive Rivers State through alternative platforms.
Despite his resignation, Obu expressed gratitude to the RFM Board of Trustees and stakeholders, reiterating his unwavering dedication to democratic values, youth participation, and good governance in the state. He also extended his best wishes to the ADC in its future political pursuits.
