Mystery surrounds the death of a young man, identified as Okorite Charles, whose body was discovered under questionable circumstances in the early hours of today at a hotel in Eagle Island Estate, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The sudden death triggered immediate outrage as grieving family members and friends besieged the hotel premises, demanding urgent answers from the management. The tension was eventually defused following the prompt arrival of officers from the Azikiwe Police Division, who secured the area and restored order.
Speaking with newsmen, the deceased’s elder brother, Obomate, revealed that the family received news of Charles’ death early in the morning. Demanding a transparent probe, he called on law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served and the true cause of death uncovered.
Following the incident, police personnel shut down the hotel and evacuated all occupants. A source familiar with the matter noted that the closure was carried out to preserve the crime scene and prevent potential tampering with crucial evidence.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary pending an autopsy.
Efforts to reach the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing-Karbolo, were unsuccessful as of press time, while police confirm that a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is currently underway.
