The National Identity Management Commission and the Nigerian Postal Service have signed a strategic partnership to integrate the National Identification Number database with the National Postcode System.
The deal was announced during a joint media briefing in Abuja. Both agencies said the integration will improve address verification, digital identity management, and service delivery across Nigeria.
Director-General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, described the collaboration as a milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation drive. She said the initiative follows the NIMC Act 2026, which makes NIMC the custodian of Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure and Root Certification Authority for the National PKI.
“While NIN establishes who an individual is, the National Postcode System establishes where that individual can reliably be reached. Together, they create a foundation for inclusive governance,” she said.
Coker-Odusote disclosed that technical teams have begun integrating postcode retrieval into the NINAuth platform, enabling Nigerians to verify addresses and retrieve postcodes on one platform.
Postmaster General of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, said the partnership will strengthen governance, emergency response, logistics, and financial inclusion. She added that the National Digital Postcode initiative repositions NIPOST beyond mail delivery to a platform for connecting citizens to services.
Both agencies pledged full interoperability in line with FG’s digital and economic inclusion agenda.
