The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected claims that funds raised from aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections were diverted or used for personal gain, characterizing the allegations as a sponsored smear campaign aimed at sabotaging its momentum as an emerging opposition force.
In an official statement released by National Publicity Secretary Osa Director, the party clarified that all levies, donations, and contributions were deposited directly into official party bank accounts and remain under strict organizational management.
Addressing rumors surrounding the internal handling of election finances, the party highlighted the necessity of member-backed funding given its status as a growing political platform.
Key Highlights of the Statement:
Transparent Financial Operations: The NDC emphasized that operating without incumbent officeholders—such as governors or ministers—requires soliciting financial support from members and public well-wishers in full accordance with its constitution and global standards.
Defense of Leadership: The party dismissed accusations against National Leader Seriake Dickson, stating he neither solicited nor received money personally from any aspirant, with all transactions fully receipted and documented.
No Ticket Sales: Rejecting accusations of commercializing its candidate selection, the NDC stated that presidential, vice-presidential, and several other contest tickets were issued free of charge to maintain candidate quality.
Challenge to Accusers: The leadership challenged anyone alleging payments were made into private accounts to step forward with evidence, warning that culpable individuals would not be shielded and legal action is being weighed against those spreading false reports.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to providing a full financial accounting in accordance with the Electoral Act and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines as election preparations continue.
