Murtala Musa Rejects Tinubu 2027 Campaign Appointment, Backs Subsidy Restoration

By Samuel Olusegun Precious

A member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Muhammad Murtala Musa D Provost, has rejected an appointment reportedly offered to him to serve on the New Media Committee for the 2027 election, citing his opposition to policies he believes have increased hardship for Nigerians.

Musa disclosed his decision in a statement dated September 7, 2026, following the publication of a list in which his name appeared among members of the APC presidential campaign’s New Media Committee under the leadership of Hon. Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on New Media.

He said he was “categorically and emphatically” declining the appointment and would instead devote his efforts to promoting any candidate who promises to restore the petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027.

“I will use my energy to market who promises to restore the petrol subsidy if he wins the 2027 presidency, even President Bola Tinubu,” Musa stated.

He also criticised the idea of defending politicians whom he believes are responsible for the hardship experienced by citizens.

“I am not among the citizens [who] defend the people who created their suffering,” he said.

Musa did not indicate in the statement whether he had previously accepted the reported appointment or explain whether his name was included in the campaign list without his prior consent.

His statement therefore amounts to a public rejection of the reported campaign role and an indication of his intention to focus his political advocacy on candidates supporting the restoration of the petrol subsidy ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
