Lagos Officials Discover Illegal Roadside Clinic Operating in Shanty Along Lagos-Badagry Expressway

By Sandra Kenneth

Environmental enforcement operatives in Lagos State have uncovered an illegal makeshift clinic operating inside a roadside shanty along the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway, rescuing a patient who was actively receiving medical treatment at the makeshift facility.

The unexpected discovery occurred around the Barracks Bus Stop during a joint, multi-agency clearance operation aimed at dismantling illegal structures, shanties, and encroachments along the major highway corridor.

The enforcement operation brought together key state security and environmental bodies, including the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the Lagos State Task Force.

Led by LAGESC Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi O. Cole (rtd.), the joint team stumbled upon the improvised medical facility while clearing illegal structures in the area. Authorities immediately halted operations at the site and intervened to secure the safety of the patient found on admission.

State officials reiterated that the enforcement exercise remains part of ongoing efforts to restore public safety, maintain environmental sanitation, and eliminate hazardous illegal structures along major transport arteries in Lagos.
