A catastrophic surge of water and mud triggered by glacial collapses has swept through the Himalayan border region, leaving at least 362 people dead and nearly 1,400 missing across Nepal and Tibet.
Emergency rescue teams raced against time on Thursday, scouring submerged communities along the Nepal-China border after intense flash flooding struck the area on Wednesday. Official updates confirm at least 359 fatalities in Nepal and three in Tibet, though death tolls are expected to rise as search operations continue.
In Tibet, state media reported that Chinese Premier Li Qiang visited the devastated zones to inspect relief efforts. Local authorities report over 500 people remain missing in the Tibetan territory alone, among them hundreds of foreign nationals.
The widespread destruction has prompted an immediate international response, with global governments and aid organizations dispatching emergency relief supplies, financial assistance, and humanitarian aid to support Nepal’s disaster response operations.
