The FG has debunked claims that Adire will become the new NYSC uniform.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande made the clarification following his statement of having Adire as uniform for corps members as part of the reform of NYSC.
The Minister had said that the move was part of new reforms designed to support Nigerian manufacturing and grow the economy.
Adire is a traditional Yoruba tie-and-dye textile, and the switch is expected to create more demand for local textile producers.
Course-Based Posting for Corps Members
Olawande also disclosed that corps members will now be posted based on their course of study.
Under the new arrangement, teachers, for example, will be posted to schools instead of unrelated placements.
He added that the government is also considering posting prospective corps members to places where they studied or are already familiar with. This, he said, is especially for areas dealing with security challenges, to help corps members settle in more easily.
