The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu is fully briefed on the activities of the Rainbow Coalition and its ongoing mobilization efforts for the President’s 2027 re-election bid.
Speaking during a recent television interview, Wike emphasized his transparency with the nation’s leader, stating that he does not engage in any political maneuvers without communicating directly with the President.
The Minister cleared the air on the strategic purpose of the Rainbow Coalition, clarifying that the group was not established to weaken the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Instead, he described it as a strategic, cross-party platform designed specifically to galvanize broad-based support for President Tinubu’s second-term campaign.
According to Wike, his foremost political objective leading up to the 2027 general elections is securing the President’s victory. However, he noted that the cross-party nature of the coalition would not stop individual political parties, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), from fielding their own candidates for governorship and legislative seats across the country.
Wike’s clarifications come on the heels of pushback from several APC governors, who have publicly voiced opposition to any political arrangements that could undermine the ruling party or jeopardize the chances of official APC candidates in the 2027 polls.
Addressing speculations regarding his long-term political career, the FCT Minister dismissed rumors linking the Rainbow Coalition to a personal presidential ambition in 2031. Wike stated that calculations for future election cycles are premature, as they will depend entirely on political circumstances that emerge at the appropriate time.
