Cape Verde have made history by booking a place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after holding Saudi Arabia to a goalless draw in their final Group H match.
The Blue Sharks produced a disciplined defensive display to earn the point they needed, finishing second in the group behind Spain to secure a historic progression to the knockout stage.
Cape Verde ended the group phase unbeaten, with the stalemate against Saudi Arabia enough to seal their place as Group H runners-up. The result also ended Saudi Arabia’s hopes of advancing.
Spain topped Group H after defeating Uruguay 1-0 in the other fixture, while Uruguay’s defeat confirmed their elimination from the tournament.
Cape Verde will now face tournament favourites Argentina in the Round of 32 in what promises to be one of the standout ties of the knockout stage. The Blue Sharks will be hoping to continue their remarkable World Cup journey with another memorable performance.
