In a strategic move to solidify party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday inaugurated a National Reconciliation and Peace Committee at its national headquarters in Abuja.
The initiative aims to resolve internal conflicts and soothe grievances stemming from the party’s recent primary elections.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, emphasized the importance of inclusivity and internal cohesion within the political party.
“While elections determine who carries the party’s flag, they must never determine who belongs to the party,” Mark said, reassuring members that both victorious candidates and unsuccessful aspirants remain vital assets to the ADC’s future.
Mark further explained that the peace committee was constituted pursuant to Article 91 of the ADC Constitution, aligning with the party’s core “handshake” philosophy—a doctrine focused on conflict resolution and building bridges across differences.
The newly formed committee is expected to commence peacebuilding engagements immediately across various states to reconcile aggrieved members and present a unified front for the upcoming general elections.
