The monarch of Eleme land, King Phillip Osaro Obele has described the silence of the federal government and operators of oil pipelines leakage as deliberate and genocidal
King PHILLIP OSARO OBELE wondered why several complaints lodged by the community over petroleum pipe line leakages would be ignored.
The King said this after inspecting the recent gas pipeline explosion in Aleto community.
“The only development they have given to us is what you have seen here today, look at properties destroyed. How can this be a palatable thing to happen to a community and so many are in the hospital”
“This pipeline was not tampered by anyone; these are old pipes that have been here for a very longtime due to negligence. It is rusty. We have invited them over this gas leakage, they came over, instead of finding a solution to the problem, they put a caution tape and left. Government should come immediately and put an end to these incidents so it doesn’t happen again”.
The mornarch of Eleme land,King Phillip Osaro Obele said despite been the host community to oil multinationals, free trade zone, refinery, there’s is little to show for it as the area is still under developed.
He said the life span of an average Eleme person has been cut short due to exposure to carbon and agents responsible for causing cancer.
” Let them consider communities that are the engine house economically. Federal government we are been neglected, it’s very bad, no development, no employment, no nothing. We are the golden egg that lays the egg and at the same time after laying the eggs, they kill us. Pollution all over, blindness and all that, cancer. What are we really benefiting, we are not happy, let the world see this ,if its good” the monarch asked
