A passenger aboard a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos died shortly before landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Tuesday night. Kenya Airways confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, October 8.
According to the airline, the passenger became unresponsive at about 9:20pm local Nigerian time, approximately 20 minutes before landing.”Our crew administered first aid as per their training and followed all emergency procedures,” KQ said.
The aircraft landed at 9:41pm where medical personnel were on standby, but on examination confirmed the passenger had passed away. The airline expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, apologising for any inconvenience, adding it upholds privacy and dignity of all involved.
The carrier said it is working with the family, local authorities and aviation regulators and providing necessary support.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, said it was briefed by Kenya Airways’ country manager and that Police have taken over investigations.
NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu disclosed the passenger was reportedly being returned to Madagascar after being denied entry into Nigeria, and Kenya Airways was responsible for the return flight.
