Rivers Police Extends Tinted Glass Enforcement Deadline to October 31

By Elvira Jordan

The Rivers State Police Command has extended the deadline for full enforcement against commercial vehicles with unauthorised tinted glasses to October 31, 2026.

The Command said the extension followed appeals from transport union leaders to give affected operators additional time to comply with the directive.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the Command urged commercial vehicle operators to use the final grace period to remove unauthorised tinted glasses and regularise their vehicles.

It warned that from November 1, 2026, vehicles found in violation would be subjected to enforcement and sanctions in accordance with the law.

The Command directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict compliance and conduct thorough and lawful searches during enforcement operations, particularly where security concerns arise.

It also reiterated that commercial tricycles, popularly known as keke, must not operate beyond 10 p.m and directed Area Commanders and DPOs to strictly enforce the restriction.

The Police Command warned officers against using the enforcement exercise to extort or harass members of the public.

It said any police officer found engaging in extortion or abusing the enforcement process would face appropriate disciplinary action.

The Command urged all transport operators to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with the Police in maintaining peace and security across Rivers State.

It reaffirmed its commitment to professional, accountable and community-friendly policing.
