The legal trouble surrounding the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has deepened after the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) invited a senior staff member, Olanrewaju Fadehan, over allegations of cyberstalking and criminal defamation.
The invitation, signed by NPF-NCCC Director AIG Akaninyene Ezima, directs Fadehan to report to the centre’s Abuja headquarters for an interview on Wednesday.
This development coincides with an interim injunction issued by the Lagos State High Court, which restrained Fadehan from publishing or disseminating further defamatory statements against WAEC and its Director-General, Dr. Amos Dangut.
Presiding over Suit No. LD/ADR/6656/2026, Justice Yetunde Adesanya restrained Fadehan from broadcasting or circulating “defamatory, maligning, and/or injurious falsehoods” across any media platform, including YouTube and WhatsApp. The interim order is set to expire after seven days unless renewed by the court.
In the lawsuit filed through Union Attorneys, WAEC and Dr. Dangut are seeking N825 million in total damages—comprising N500 million in general damages, N300 million in aggravated damages, and N25 million in legal costs. They are also demanding a public retraction, an apology, and the permanent removal of all alleged libelous materials.
Fadehan, who serves as the Head of Examinations at WAEC’s Anambra office, sparked controversy after releasing viral videos questioning the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). He alleged widespread irregularities, including the non-provision of appropriate calculators to candidates, which he claimed adversely affected student performance in Mathematics.
He further accused management of financial impropriety concerning student ID cards and service charges, subsequently petitioning the WAEC Board, the National Assembly, and the Minister of Education.
In response, WAEC spokesperson Moyosola Adesina dismissed the claims as false, attributing Fadehan’s actions to retaliation following disciplinary action over his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of diesel at the Awka office.
Confirming receipt of the court order and police invitation, Fadehan stated that he remains undeterred and has filed an appeal against the internal sanctions imposed on him by the council.
