A devastating bus crash along Egypt’s eastern coastline killed at least 22 people and injured 28 others on Wednesday morning, according to a statement from the Egyptian Health Ministry.
The fatal crash occurred on a highway connecting the popular Red Sea tourist towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in the South Sinai governorate. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the accident, and it remains unclear how many passengers were on board when the vehicle crashed.
Local Egyptian and Jordanian media outlets reported that as many as 10 Jordanian nationals are among the deceased.
The Egyptian Health Ministry confirmed that all 28 injured individuals were transported to three regional hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The coastal stretch where the accident took place is part of a high-traffic corridor widely popular with international tourists and holidaymakers.
Deadly transit accidents remain a persistent issue in the region. According to official government figures, road fatalities across Egypt reached nearly 6,000 in 2025, frequently linked to speeding, poor road conditions, and lax safety enforcement. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of Wednesday’s crash.
