The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has asked former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva to present himself to the commission over an alleged $14.86 million fraud case.
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale made the call after Sylva accused the agency of “acting like an arm of the All Progressives Congress” following his resignation from the party.
Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, was declared wanted by the EFCC in November 2025 over alleged conspiracy and dishonest conversion involving $14.86 million.
The commission said the matter is already before the courts. Sylva has not been convicted.
In his resignation letter from the APC, which he said he also copied to the EFCC, Sylva alleged that leaving the ruling party could trigger further investigations against him and his associates.
He also denied being linked to a separate alleged plot against the Tinubu administration, describing the claims as false.
Oyewale said the commission’s invitation has nothing to do with politics.
“The EFCC is a law enforcement agency. Mr. Sylva is wanted in connection with a case of alleged financial crime. We urge him to come forward and clear his name,” he stated.
The former governor served Bayelsa State between 2007-2012 and later as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources under the Buhari administration.
The EFCC said the case will continue to be prosecuted in court in line with due process.
