Fresh tension has gripped Khana Local Government Area following the tragic killing of three individuals—including an official protocol aide to the Executive Chairman—in separate shooting incidents across Bori, the LGA’s headquarters.
The most recent attack occurred on Monday, August 17, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on Mr. Phillip Barikui along Makoro Street in Bori. Barikui, a native of Opouko Town and protocol aide to LGA Chairman Dr. Bariere Thomas, died at the scene. An unidentified companion who was with him during the attack suffered critical gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
This double homicide follows the recent killing of Mr. Letam Kinee (popularly known as “Langa”), a member of the Khana LGA Sanitation Committee, who was gunned down along the busy Polytechnic Road.
In a separate incident on Saturday, August 15, a middle-aged man returning home to Kaani Babbe around 8:00 p.m. was ambushed along Kaani Babbe Road. Assailants killed the victim before fleeing with his recently purchased motorcycle.
Rising Security Concerns
The series of violent attacks targetting individuals associated with the local administration has sparked growing anxiety among residents regarding the security climate in Khana LGA. Despite the tension, commercial activities have resumed, and calm has reportedly returned to Makoro Street and surrounding areas.
As of press time, neither the Khana Local Government Council nor local law enforcement authorities have issued official statements detailing the motives or circumstances surrounding the attacks. Security agencies have yet to identify any suspects, and investigation into the incidents remains ongoing.
