The Rivers State Government has finalized arrangements to commence a two-week commissioning exercise for a fresh batch of people-oriented development projects across the state, running from Monday, August 17 to Monday, August 31, 2026.
Briefing journalists at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, announced that the program will kick off with the newly constructed Buguma–Degema–Abonnema Road, a vital transport artery spanning Asari-Toru, Degema, and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas.
Dr. Wokoma noted that the projects scheduled for inauguration cut across critical sectors, including road infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social services. He described the facilities as tangible proof of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s ongoing commitment to improving the living standards of residents across all 23 Local Government Areas.
“These projects were strategically designed to upgrade infrastructure, expand access to essential public services, and stimulate socio-economic growth state-wide,” Wokoma stated. He urged residents to come out in large numbers to participate in the celebration of these developmental milestones.
A lineup of key projects slated for official handover includes major road networks such as the Elele–Egbeda–Omoku Dual Carriageway, Egwi–Afara–Mba Road in Etche, Omademe Internal Roads, and the Agba Ndele Road and Bridge.
In healthcare and aviation, the state will open the New Zonal Hospital in Omoku, the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital and New General Hospital at Rumuigbo, and the upgraded runway at the New Air Force Base.
Educational and governance infrastructure are also prominent on the schedule, featuring the inauguration of the rebuilt Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, the Entrepreneurship Centre and Engineering Faculty Building at Capt. Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, and new facilities at Bonny National Grammar School.
State officials reiterated that the exercise serves to showcase completed investments aimed at strengthening public infrastructure and improving service delivery across Rivers State.
