President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Team Nigeria for their standout performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, describing their impressive 24-medal haul as a testament to the resilience and excellence of the Nigerian spirit.
Nigeria concluded the multi-sport competition with a total of 24 medals—comprising 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze—securing a place among the top-performing nations at the Games.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the athletes for representing the country with distinction, discipline, and honour.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulates Team Nigeria on their remarkable performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland,” the statement read.
“The President celebrates the athletes for demonstrating the resilience, determination, discipline, and excellence that define the Nigerian spirit. He commends Team Nigeria for flying the country’s flag with dignity and pride, affirming that the 24 medals won are a testament to their hard work and perseverance.”
Beyond the immediate victories on the podium, President Tinubu noted that the international experience gained by the contingent would build a strong foundation for future global sports competitions, while inspiring young Nigerians to embrace national service and dedication.
The President extended his appreciation to the entire contingent—including coaches, technical officials, medical personnel, and administrators—as well as the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission for their roles in driving sports development.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth and sports infrastructure, Tinubu pledged continued support for the country’s athletes.
“My administration remains steadfast in its resolve to invest in sports development, strengthen our sporting institutions, improve training facilities, and create greater opportunities for our talented athletes to excel on the continental and global stage,” President Tinubu stated.

Team Nigeria delivered key victories across multiple disciplines in Glasgow, including athletics, weightlifting, wrestling, boxing, and para-sports.
This latest performance continues Nigeria’s strong tradition at the Commonwealth Games as one of Africa’s leading sporting powerhouses, providing strong momentum as preparations begin for the 2027 African Games and upcoming Olympic qualification events.
