Education stakeholders and academic experts have called on the Rivers State Government to urgently address the deteriorating infrastructure in public primary and secondary schools across the state before students resume for the new academic term.
The plea comes amid growing concerns over the dilapidated state of public learning institutions during a prolonged school vacation.
Speaking in an interview, educationist Gift Chinenye Akani decried the severe lack of basic amenities in public schools, revealing that many institutions across the state lack fundamental structures such as perimeter fencing, intact roofs, functional windows, and adequate classroom seating.
“The deteriorating condition of learning environments poses a major threat to effective teaching and learning,” Akani stated, appealing to the state government to prioritize the comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrading of public-school facilities.
She emphasized that sustained government investment in educational infrastructure is vital to creating a safe and conducive learning environment for both students and teachers.
In a related development, Professor Olufemmy Adesobe has urged scholars and academic institutions to ensure research findings extend beyond journal publications to drive real-world solutions.
Speaking on the need for practical impact, Adesobe called on academics to focus on commercializing their research discoveries to enhance both their educational and economic value to society.
He stressed that strengthening the bridge between academic research, innovation, and practical implementation remains critical to boosting development within the education sector.
