WAFCON: CAF Appoints Nigerian Referee Yemisi Akintoye For 2026 Tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Nigerian FIFA badge referee Yemisi Akintoye as one of the match officials for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Akintoye, who has been a FIFA-listed referee since 2021, secured her spot on the continental roster after successfully passing CAF’s rigorous medical, physical fitness, and technical evaluations.

The Nigerian Football Referees Association (NFRA) welcomed the appointment, calling it a testament to the rising quality and reputation of Nigerian officiating on the international stage. 

NFRA President Sir Kelechi Mejuobi congratulated Akintoye, expressing full confidence that she would deliver a standout performance at the tournament. Mejuobi also reiterated the association’s commitment to training and supporting local officials to earn high-profile continental and global assignments.

Before departing for the WAFCON tournament, Akintoye is scheduled to take charge of the domestic Women’s FA Cup final.
