The Rivers State Government says additional measures will be implemented in the coming weeks to tackle persistent gas leakages in Bille Community, Degema Local Government Area.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara disclosed this during a meeting with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, and Bille chiefs at Government House, Port Harcourt. Governor Fubara expressed optimism that the environmental challenge would soon be resolved following discussions with the Federal Government. He assured residents that efforts were being intensified to bring the situation under control.
Federal Government’s Commitment
Minister Ekpo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the environmental pollution caused by the leakages.He said regulatory agencies had earlier deployed experts to investigate the cause of the leak with a view to finding a lasting solution. He appealed to residents to remain patient and continue cooperating with the authorities as intervention efforts continue.
Health and Emergency Support
Ekpo commended the Rivers State Government for upgrading health centres in the affected area. He also assured the community that additional firefighting equipment would be provided to strengthen emergency response.
