The Coordinator of the Advocacy Group, Pilex Centre for Civic Education Initiative, Courage Nsirimovu, has urged the people of Rivers State to look beyond ongoing political realignments and begin identifying credible, accountable candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to recent political reconciliation moves involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and other major stakeholders, Nsirimovu noted that while politicians are free to make political choices, the developments have left many residents confused and disenchanted.
According to him, many citizens initially backed Governor Fubara during the state’s political crisis out of a desire for an administration free from external influence and directly accountable to the electorate.
“Rivers people expected a leadership that they could easily access, question, and hold accountable,” Nsirimovu said, adding that voters must now pivot toward candidates across party lines who demonstrate proven integrity and commitment to public welfare.
Citing the electoral outcome in Osun State as proof that citizens can defeat powerful political structures, the activist called on residents not to lose faith in the democratic process.
He urged voters to remain resilient, exercise vigilance from the polling units through to the collation process, and prevent political manipulation from driving electoral apathy.
Nsirimovu concluded by calling on the electorate to unite behind figures dedicated to defending human rights, promoting infrastructure, and ensuring economic prosperity across the state.
